What the defect is
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2025 CB1000SP motorcycles. The pistons and piston rings may have been improperly manufactured, which can lead to rod bearing failure, possibly resulting in rear wheel lock up or oil leaking onto the rear tire.
What could happen
Rear wheel lockup increases the risk of a crash or injury. Engine oil that leaks onto hot exhaust components increases the risk of a fire.
What gets fixed
Dealers will inspect and repair the engine assembly as necessary, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed February 9, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available, anticipated December 14, 2026.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 18 December 2025.
