What the defect is
Braun Industries, Inc. (Braun Ambulances) is recalling certain 2021-2026 Chief XL I, Chief XL III, 2021-2025 Express Plus I, Liberty I, 2025 Express III, Select Chief XL I, and Super Chief I emergency vehicles equipped with a Pran system. The battery isolator may fail, causing a loss of electrical systems such as interior, exterior lighting, and patient support systems.
What could happen
A loss of exterior lights can reduce the visibility of the vehicle to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash. A loss of patient support systems can delay care, increasing the risk of injury.
What gets fixed
Braun Service or an authorized dealer will update the software, modify wiring, and replace the battery isolator, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 12, 2026.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 31 December 2025.
