What the defect is
The low air pressure switches used on some of the involved vehicles have a manufacturing tolerance that issues a warning only when the pressure drops a few pounds per square inch below 60 psi. As a result, they do not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 121, "air brake systems".
What gets fixed
IF THE OWNER, UPON RECEIPT OF A POST CARD, INDICATES A COMPLIANCE, THE DEALER WILL REIMBURSE OWNER $5.00 FOR COST OF TEST. IF OWNER INDICATES A NON-COMPLIANCE, THE DEALER WILL SEND TWO REPLACEMENT SWITCHES AND A CHECK FOR $5.00 TO COVER BOTH THE SYSTEM TEST AND SWITCH REPLACEMENT.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 15 November 1979.
