What gets fixed
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE REAR BRAKE LINES, AND IF NECESSARY, REPLACE A SECTION OF THE REAR BRAKE LINES IF IT IS LEAKING. ALSO THE RUBBER SHIELD ON THE LINE WILL BE INSPECTED TO VERIFY THAT IT IS PROPERLY LOCATED AND IT WILL BE SECURED WITH AN ADDITIONAL WORM-DRIVE TYPE CLAMP.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 13 March 1996.

System: brakes; hydraulic; lines; hose; non-metallic. Vehicle description: non-abs equipped police vehicles. Description of problem: this is not a safety recall in accordance with federal regulation 573. However, it is deemed a safety improvement campaign by the agency. The rear brake line can come into contact with a body weld flange at the lower dash panel during pursuit or slalom type police maneuvers.consequence of problem: this condition can wear a small hole in the brake linecausing gradual brake fluid leakage eventually resulting in the loss of therear service brakes.note: ford has decided to conduct a safety improvement service campaign toinspect the brake lines on these police vehicles.
