- Sonar Aftermarket Auto Lighting
What the defect is
Sonar auto parts is recalling 590,386 aftermarket headlamps, corner lights, and bumper lights designed to be mounted at or near the front of certain various passenger vehicles. These headlamps fail to conform to the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 108, "lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment." these head lamps do not contain the required amber side reflectors.
What could happen
Decreased lighting visibility may result in a vehicle crash.
What gets fixed
SONAR WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND OFFER TO A REFUND FOR THE NONCOMPLIANCE HEADLAMPS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 27, 2008.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 8 September 2008.
