What the defect is
Collins Bus is recalling certain 2012-2020 Ford SL, Ford SH, Ford DH, Ford DE, Ford TH, Ford TL, Chevy DE, and Chevy DH school buses. The emergency exit label may be placed in the incorrect location and the lettering height may not be high enough. As such, these vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 217, "Bus Emergency Exits and Window Retention and Release."
What could happen
In an emergency, the incorrect window label instructions may prevent or delay the use of the emergency exit, increasing the risk of injury.
What gets fixed
Collins Bus will mail new labels, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on November 21, 2022.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 19 September 2022.
