What the defect is
Motor Coach Industries (MCI) is recalling certain 2024 D45CRTE, D45CRTELE, and 2025 J4500E coaches. The high voltage battery may experience a short circuit within the battery module when charging to near or full capacity.
What could happen
A short circuit in a high voltage battery increases the risk of a fire.
What gets fixed
Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Owners are also advised to avoid charging vehicles above 75% capacity. MCI will either replace the batteries, repurchase the vehicles, offer a vehicle trade-in or a reimbursement, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 8, 2026.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 19 September 2025.
