What the defect is
Motor coach industries (mci) is recalling certain model year 2010-2011 D4505 motor coaches manufactured from may 1, 2010, through september 30, 2011. These vehicles were equipped with penntex alternators that, as installed, may collect moisture at the power stud. This moisture may result in corrosion buildup at and around the power stud base.
What could happen
This corrosion may create a short circuit between the power stud and the alternator body, which in turn could result in burning of the power stud or the power cable end. This could increase the risk of a fire. Additionally, the vehicle battery could discharge which could cause the vehicle to stall.
What gets fixed
MCI WILL INSPECT AND MODIFY THE ALTERNATOR INSTALLATION FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 30, 2011.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 10 November 2011.
